"St. Louis overtook Camden, N.J., as the nation's most dangerous city in 2009, according to a national study released Sunday.
The study by CQ Press found St. Louis had 2,070.1 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, compared with a national average of 429.4. That helped St. Louis beat out Camden, which topped last year's list and was the most dangerous city for 2003 and 2004." -Associated Press
i just thought the highlighted line indicates an organized effort by criminals in every city to make their city the most dangerous city in america. like it was a known competition or something. i'm jus sayin...

nice guy vs the jerk

chivalry. courteous and generous behavior towards women. something that every woman looks for right?
so they say.
"chivalry is dead and women killed it!" - dave chappelle (killin' them softly)
even though that phrase has a comedic tone, he makes a truthful point. there is no hope for the nice guy anymore. a friend of mine is going through a rough one right now. married the love of his life. super nice guy. he's a guy around guys, and mush around his woman. he goes out the way for his woman on a daily basis and now she wants to call things off for what? boredom? nope they travel. he's cheating? nope. too soft for that. he mistreats her? nope. i said he's a nice guy! then why? she never gives the same reason twice. how about counseling? he tried. she refused. hmm...we'll come back to this story. my theory? follow me:
women love jerks...there i said it. how come it's the guys that treat women like crap the ones they never want to let go. doesn't make sense but i have somewhat of an understanding. i think on some level, we all lose an appreciation for what we have, thus the saying "you don't know what you have til it's gone". when a guy becomes a jerk, it's as if he is "taking away" the things that the woman appreciates most which makes the woman in the relationship "submit" or "cling" to the guy in fear of "losing everything". in short, women rather have a jerky boyfriend than no boyfriend.
why are women more attracted to a jerk than a sweet, nice guy?
the answer is complicated because they are and yet they aren't. there is a "nice" attribute that attracts women, but even though a jerk reveals himself as a jerk later on, women make the mistake of excusing the jerk's actions by saying "he's not always like that". then, the nice guy (who seems to do all the right things), although sincere, has absolutely no chance becoz it is now assumed that he has a hidden agenda. it's a vicious cycle.
back to the scenario with my friend:
he was pulling insight from everywhere. but when he came to me, i told him to be a straight asshole. straight up. result? he finally pushed back, stiffened his neck, and rose above her nonsense and NOW she wants to work towards making things work.
women, defend yourselves...what's up with that?!?
this is an ongoing topic that needs to be discussed. please, chime in. leave lots of comments. we are looking for everyone's point of view. even if you're a jerk. i'm just saying...

heavy smoke and fire could be seen after two cars flip over each other on the expressway. i'm just glad everyone walked away from it alive.

2 for 9
some idiot attempted to rob a kum and go gas station in owasso, ok. he was weilding an ak47...so people thought. a lady runs out of the building screaming that the guy inside had a gun. just so happened that an off duty officer was pumping gas at the time. the officer goes into the store. the culprit points the gun at him. the officer fires 9 times hitting the guy twice. (it's apparent his aim was altered by the fear being shot by the ak47.) the guy goes down, dropping his weapon which turned out to be a toy. what sux even worse is the guy was shot in his baby maker...good thing. that's one less generation of dumbasses from his family tree society has to deal with.

or you can get with that

Foxnews.com reports:
Nissan is recalling about 46,000 2009-2010 Cubes in the United States due to non-compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standards, MarketWatch reported Monday.
Nissan said the mini multi-purpose vehicles developed a fuel leak during a crash test that could result in a fire, according to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last week.
"When the vehicle was rotated following a rear moving barrier crash test as required, the amount of fuel leakage exceeded the allowable limits," Nissan said.
that sux...all the more reason for scion to say, "you can get with this, or you can get with that!"

storm + volcano = sink hole

guatemala city, guatemala, central america - our neighbors to the south are having a bit of a problem with traffic downtown except it's not cars getting dismantled rather three-storey buildings are disappearing. talk about your pot hole! 200 ft deep into the earth's surface. i had to look at this a thousand times. it looks unreal! i mean the recipe for a pot hole is basically heavy 16-wheelers cause cracks in the road, cracks getting filled with water causing erosion (or freeing and expanding) until cars run over it constantly causing it to get bigger. but 200 ft of sink holeness? what's the recipe for that?
it's staring with the forever churning volcano down there simmering below the earth's surface. add a tropical storm from the pacific dumping oodles of rain (causing mudslides etc) and now you have highly unstable mush with heavy stuff on top off it and boom! a 200 ft sink hole.
full article here
storm damages:
123 deaths have been confirmed while 59 people are still unaccounted for.
1 man was in the building when it collapsed (presumed dead)
94,000 people have been evacuated
usa government has donated $113,000 for emergency supplies etc
thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

too fat to workout here

oklahoma city, ok- a lady is working out on a stationary bike and is approached by one of the gym's employees. the employee asks the lady to get off the bike because she is too big to workout on the equipment. according to the woman, she decided to work out to shed extra weight she gained from having a baby. she weighs 385 pounds. the lady decided to opt out her contract because according to her, the only alternative workout would be walking around in an empty room at the gym; an exercise she can do for free. the other side of the story is when she joined, a special workout plan was drawn up for her that included water aerobics but did not include workout equipment. but once the lady saw an opportunity, she went for it.

my take on it:
what was not clearly stated in the article (the vibe i get from it) is liability issues. overexertion (which can lead to a number of things) and safety (as in weight limits for the equipment). i understand that she wants to lose weight and fast but watching biggest loser and thinking the weight will disappear quickly by running the hell out of a bike is misleading. additionally, those people are monitored at all times with medics ready to act at any second. my advice? pace yourself.

"...she was trying to get his attention..."

okay, i had a little trouble with this one. not that i was torn, but the fact i wanted to believe the teacher and the double talking lawyer were sincerely apologetic and are willing to admit guilt on the part of the teacher, but i felt like they were still trying to justify the reason for her actions by blaming the way the system is being run.
the story line: in houston, tx a teacher has been fired for beating a 13 yr old student causing a black eye, a contusion, and bruises.
the excuse: student was a threat to a mental disable female student.
justification: student has abusive criminal record and has a history of striking fellow students as well as teachers. according to her lawyer "...she was trying to get his attention...".
setting: jamie's house charter school for troubled teen. "no system of security". teachers are first and last line of defense for themselves and other students in locked rooms.
watch here
my take on it: okay. you know what you're getting into working in an environment where these kids have known issues. these are kids. they obviously have no positive role models. this particular situation involves a teacher who earned teacher of the year twice in three years of teaching. you mean to tell me that she could not think of any better way to handle this situation? how about becoming a physical barrier between the aggressor and the victim. call for backup. call his momma. she's on camera portraying that she cares (but then again, dollar signs cause people to do strange things). to me, it seems the stress of the job (i do not doubt that the school is a highly stressful environment) got the best of her and she found an inappropriate outlet in the form of a trouble making teen. i relate this incident to working in a mental institution. these people are fragile. we know that going in. so if a mental disable patient hits you or becomes aggressive, we relate that to a mental disease, restrain them, remove them from the situation, and give them space. why couldn't she and the onlooking staff do the same? i'm not saying this boy was an angel, just an angel with a problem.

mercy or no mercy?

san antonio, tx - may 2009 (pic from dash cam of v.i.a. bus)
the mother of a now 2 yr old baby is begging for mercy to keep her three children after a bus driver nearly hit the then 14 month old whom was seated in the middle of a busy street! if that's not bad enough, throw in the fact that it was midnight and the parents had no idea that their baby was outside...yeah. fortunately for everyone involved, the bus driver stopped just feet in front of the baby. once the bus driver got out of the bus, the father of the baby trotted out, picked up the baby, and turned to go inside without saying a word.
watch the video here
so i ask you, yeah things happen. and sometimes it takes a mistake before some people learn. but this incident could have cost that baby's life. do these parents deserve mercy?
notice the way everything went down then answer this: why weren't the parents more grateful to the alert bus driver? and why wasn't the 14 month old IN BED LIKE THE REST OF THE BABIES AROUND THE WORLD? even if the kids were allowed to be up at that hour, why weren't they being supervised with an open door?

poe-tay-toe vs pah-tah-toe

there has been a very slight, yet necessary change made to the recently passed controversial arizona law. for those that don't know the state of arizona has passed a law that makes it a crime to be an illegal immigrant, punishable via imprisonment and due process that includes deportation. the "remix" to this law, as it were, is as follows:
"The new version of the law says: "A law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may not consider race, color or national origin in implementing the requirements of this subsection except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona Constitution."
The prior version had said that an official "may not solely consider race" in such circumstances.
The change appears to limit the scope of the law. The previous wording left open the possibility that race could be used as a factor -- just not the sole factor -- in deciding to stop someone."
where does this put us? hm...no better than we were. there are some that believe that this goes back to having probable cause. it's not uncommon to find situations where probable cause is quite a gray area. others argue that the likelihood of asking a man from europe for his legal documentation that proves he can be here is practically zero; yet, asking a u.s. born latin man for documentation is almost certain. racial profiling will still be an issue without the law. it's just a little more legal now. we'll see in the next 90 days how this will pan out when the law officially goes into effect.
